Q I have a question that might involve automotive espionage. Last Saturday, my wife and I were awakened by a very loud explosion that shook our upstairs windows. We thought someone had bombed our neighborhood. We investigated to find everyone crowded around a neighbor's old Ford Bronco. Evidently, when my neighbor started his car, the entire muffler system exploded, leaving a pile of debris surrounding the vehicle. I've never heard of a muffler going up in smithereens like that.

Luke Ford was supposed to be releasing a 4.4l diesel for the F150 and a 'new' bronco here shortly... in the 2007 model year trucks. However, due to a downturn at Ford, they have put off production until the 2008 model year. So look for about September or October of next year. At least that is what the scuttlebutt is saying right now. My local dealer actually had pictures of the diesel f-150 - showing the engine under the hood at some dealer show in detroit. He was pretty excited - wanted to get one for himself. Unfortunately, it looks like we will be waiting longer. It also sounds like Dodge and Chevy are starting to eye diesels for their 1500 series. They say look for them around the 2010 model year.
